Strategic Plan Launch

16/06/2023

'The Next 10 Years of Queenstown Trails' outlines plans to further enhance the trail network and broaden the scope of trails on offer from accessible cycleways and active transport routes to multi-day adventures and backcountry singletrack.

Centered around four focus areas of trails, environment, people and technology, the plan focuses on the development of regenerative trails – that benefit local communities and visitors to the region as well as deliver conservation outcomes.

'Collaboration is key for trails to have a positive impact on the land and the communities they pass through. Enabling enhanced access leads to a better understanding of the need to protect our environment, allowing wilding control, native planting and predator trapping to occur, reinforcing our role as Kaitiaki' -Willy, CEO Queenstown Trails

The Next 10 years of Queenstown Trails aligns with Queenstown’s destination management plan and move towards regenerative, carbon zero tourism by 2030, encouraging visitors to engage with slower more sustainable means of transport, and advocating for behavioural change to more active modes of transport for our community.

Long term aspirations include trails from Queenstown to Glenorchy, and eventually around Lake Whakatipu, as well as regional links to Central Otago, Kingston and Te Anau. Work is currently underway on the Queenstown Trail expansion project between Tucker Beach, Arthurs Point and Arrowtown, which will complete the missing link in the Whakatipu basin, connecting those communities and linking seamlessly with the MTB trails around Coronet Peak and Mahu Whenua.

The past ten years on the Queenstown Trails would not have been made possible without you our Trail Lovers, Major Sponsors, alliance and business partners and all the contractors that have helped us.  We appreciate your support and thank you.
