Queenstown to Jack's Point

27 KMS

This spectacular track is a ride of two halves - not for the fainthearted!

This spectacular track is a ride of two halves - not for the fainthearted! The first 12kms is an easy, flat and picturesque ride which follows the edge of the Frankton Arm of Lake Wakatipu across the historic one-lane Kawarau Falls bridge. A coffee stop at the Hilton is a local's favourite.

From the Hilton your ride will take you along Kelvin Peninsula where you’ll get an up-close look at some of Queenstown’s most notable contemporary homes. The Kelvin Peninsula Loop Upgrade (completed at Christmas 2014) takes you on a truly beautiful 2.1km journey following Lake Wakatipu around the Kelvin Peninsula Golf Course.  Take in the inspiring Goats sculpture, created by artist Jeff Thomson located on road reserve below the Queenstown Golf Course and overlooking Lake Wakatipu and the recently installed "Thru Link to Peak" by well known Arrowtown sculptor Shane Woolridge.. From the end of the Golf Course onwards, prepare for a ride on the wild side, narrow twisting trail for several kilometres, steep climbs and descents and some tight bends – you may need to get off and push at times. This is indeed, a ride for those wanting to get off the beaten track.

Riding across the moody wild tussocks and natural schist through this Lord Of The Rings landscape, you’ll feel like you have the place to yourself. The views to Cecil and Walter Peak are breathtaking. The last 2 kms to Jack’s Point is currently rated Grade 4, suitable for intermediate to advanced cyclists.

Arriving at Jack’s Point is a well-earned reward Just a 15 minute drive from Queenstown Central, this 3,000 acre settlement and resort village is snuggled under the mighty backdrop of the Remarkable Mountain range. A world apart, Jack’s Point 5 star luxury resort encompasses a world-class golf course, magnificent homes and club house restaurant.

Be sure to stop for a well-earned coffee at the clubhouse for the ride home. Or indulge in a superb long lunch and arrange transport for the return journey.
