Introducing Alexa Forbes

We love nothing more than to meet our trail users and find out what they love about the Queenstown Trail. Meet Alexa Forbes, local QLDC councillor, avid cyclist and active promoter of commuting by bike. Alexa talesfromthetrails

Alexa riding the Queenstown Trail.

WHO? I'm a Frankton resident, a Queenstown Lakes District Councillor and lecturer in sustainable practice at Otago Polytechnic.  I am also a director of Scope Media, a Public Relations company.

I ride the Frankton to Queenstown trail most weekdays.  It's my commute and I love it, especially since it's been upgraded.  I also ride the other trails for recreation.

WHAT BRINGS YOU TO THE QUEENSTOWN TRAIL? On this day (see video link above) I was on the trail with my partner Sean Drader and we were making a wee video for my re-election campaign.  It was pretty funny, he'd rigged up our son's camera and was cycling along in front of me to film my video clip. I was doing my best not to run into him.

WHERE ARE YOU RIDING/WALKING? We were at the Frankton Kindergarten end of the River Trail (see video link above).  This bit is very close to our house.  I use this trail to get to places like Glenda Drive, and also we often cycle from here to get to Lake Hayes Estate where we'll have a coffee with friends - I love the views, particularly from the point near the airport where you can see both ways, up river into the picturesque valley, and down river towards the Shotover confluence.  I ride this very often, and never tire of that view.

WHAT BIKE ARE YOU RIDING?  A pretty ordinary Avanti.  It's functional.  I have a basket on the front for my handbag and jacket.   I like to be able to ride into town or to the shops in my everyday clothes and the basket helps.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE QUEENSTOWN TRACK? This is tricky, I love many of the trails, but I do particularly love Morven Ferry to Gibbston. The fabulous Edgar swing bridge and in the springtime the highly scented thyme.  Also the fact that there's a very good glass of wine at the destination...

Thanks Alexa and good luck with the upcoming elections. If you'd like to feature in #talesfromthetrail get in touch with lou@queenstowntrail.org.nz.
