Introducing John Thompson

We love to meet our trail users and this month we talk to John Thompson. John has been a Queenstown Trails Trust volunteer trustee for a whopping 10 years, an active member of the Queenstown community for 35 years and is a keen mountain biker. This month we sadly say goodbye to John as he stands down as a trustee on our board.  We’d like to say what an honour it has been, thank you so much for your significant contribution to the Trust, and now it’s time to get out there and ride some more!

 John T

WHO: John Thompson, I have lived in Queenstown for 35 yrs. I am a retired Grocer, Queenstown Trails Trust trustee and avid cyclist & mountain biker.

WHAT BRINGS YOU TO THE QUEENSTOWN TRAIL TODAY? I like to ride for general fitness, today just a short spin after some gardening.

WHICH TRAIL ARE YOU ON? I enjoy riding the Kelvin Heights trail (part of the Lake Wakatipu Trail) regularly. It passes our home and provides access to an easy ride or can extend to the Jack’s Point Trail, or the Kawarau river trail (Twin Rivers Trail) which is one of the best longer rides.

WHAT DID YOU ENJOY THE MOST? The views along here and around the Kelvin Heights golf course are always spectacular.

WHAT ARE YOU RIDING? My bike is a Niner Jet 9. I enjoy it.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE QUEENSTOWN TRACK?  When I have time a ride from home along the Kawarau River to Morven Ferry Road, Arrowtown and return through Millbrook, Slope Hill is a great outing (See favourite rides http://queenstowntrail.co.nz/maps-and-rides/favourite-rides/queenstown-to-arrowtown-via-lake-hayes/).

It really is such a pleasure and a privilege to get to work with such passionate and generous community driven people at the Queenstown Trails Trust. Do you love the trails? If you'd like to feature in #talesfromthetrail get in touch with Lou@queenstowntrail.org.nz
