INTRODUCING WILLY, QUEENSTOWN TRAILS TRUST CEO
We love to get out and meet our trail users and find out what they love about our wonderful trail network. This month we caught up with the newly recruited Queenstown Trails Trust CEO, Mark Williams or Willy as he prefers to be know and his girls Merryn (4) and Cara (3).
WHO? I’m Mark Williams (aka Willy) from Queenstown. I’ve been in town for almost 20 years and have always enjoyed riding and racing my bikes, both on and off road. We are so lucky to have such awesome terrain and some of the best trails in the world.
WHAT BRINGS YOU TO THE QUEENSTOWN TRAIL TODAY? Autumn is my favourite time of year with crisp starts and clear settled days. The colours are awesome right now, so my wife Lucy and I headed out with our girls on a family ride to make the most of the sunshine.
WHICH TRAIL ARE YOU ON? We rode around the Kelvin Peninsula today, the kids really enjoyed the track through the woods, and the lovely sculptures on the lake shore (especially the goats!)
WHAT DID YOU ENJOY THE MOST? It's great to see the kids enjoying their surroundings and getting active on the local trails. My favourite bit though was the sushi picnic on the beach...
WHAT BIKE ARE YOU RIDING? I ride a Trek Fuel EX 29er MTB, Merryn (aged 4) is on a 14” Islabike, and Cara (3) is charging on her Frog balance bike.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE QUEENSTOWN TRACK? My favourite trail is Gold Digger on the Moke Lake road. I usually ride up the trail as part of my favourite loop around Moke Lake, Lake Dispute, Phoenix and 7mile. (A big thank you to the QMTBC trail building volunteers for their efforts!)
